Why Granite Works in Bathrooms
Granite is hard, dense and resistant to water, heat from hair tools and most cosmetics. Unlike marble, it does not etch from acidic products such as some toothpastes and cleaners. Dark granites in particular need very little maintenance.
Daily Cleaning
- Wipe the vanity with a damp microfibre cloth and mild soap or a stone-safe spray.
- Rinse with a clean damp cloth.
- Dry with a soft towel, especially around the tap and basin.

Drying prevents hard-water spots and keeps the polish bright.
Sealing Your Vanity
Seal granite vanities after installation. Dark granites may need resealing only every few years; light granites such as Kashmir White or Snow White benefit from yearly sealing.
When Is It Time to Reseal?
Do the water-drop test: place a few drops of water on the vanity and wait ten minutes. If the stone darkens beneath the water, it is absorbing moisture and needs resealing. A dark ring around the sink or tap is another sign.
Removing Stains
Soap scum: use a soap-scum remover labelled safe for natural stone, or a baking soda paste. Rinse well.
Hard water spots: dry-buff with a microfibre cloth; use a stone-safe hard-water remover for heavy build-up. Avoid descalers.
Oil and cosmetics: baking soda poultice for 24 hours.
Hair dye and mehndi: on light granite, a hydrogen peroxide poultice.
Nail polish: a little acetone on a cotton pad, then rinse.
What to Avoid
- Bathroom acids and toilet cleaners
- Bleach and ammonia-based cleaners
- Vinegar and lemon
- Abrasive powders
Tips for a Long-Lasting Vanity
- Keep toiletries on a tray
- Use a soap dish rather than placing soap directly on stone
- Ventilate to reduce humidity
- Re-caulk the joint between vanity and wall when it cracks
