Porcelain Slab Countertops: Cost Guide for Pakistan

Porcelain slabs have arrived as a serious alternative to stone and quartz. They offer marble and stone looks in a thin, ultra-durable format that handles heat, scratches and sunlight remarkably well. Here is what they cost and why.

What Is Porcelain?

Porcelain is made from refined clays, feldspar and minerals pressed under very high pressure and fired in kilns at temperatures above 1,200°C. The result is a dense, vitrified, non-porous material. Large-format slabs — FB Marble stocks sizes such as 1200 × 2400 mm — are used for counters, walls, floors and furniture. FB Marble offers 23 porcelain designs in white, grey, black and warm tones.

How Much Do Porcelain Countertops Cost?

Porcelain pricing depends on size, thickness and design. As wall and floor tiles in large format, porcelain is often very economical per square foot. As a countertop, the cost rises because thin slabs need careful handling, specialised cutting and often mitered edges to create a thicker look. FB Marble confirms rates for each project.

What Determines Porcelain Cost?

Size. Larger slabs reduce joints but cost more and need careful transport.

Thickness. Thin (around 9 mm) slabs suit walls; thicker slabs (12 mm and above) are better for counters.

Design. High-definition marble and stone prints, and bookmatched sets, cost more than plain colours.

Finish. Polished, matte and textured finishes vary in price.

Fabrication. Mitered edges, sink cut-outs and precise joins require skilled labour.

Installation. Large slabs need multiple installers and suction lifters.

Advantages of Porcelain

  • Excellent heat resistance — hot pans will not scorch it
  • Extremely scratch-resistant
  • Non-porous: no sealing needed
  • UV-stable: suitable for outdoor kitchens and terraces
  • Lightweight compared with stone

Disadvantages

  • Edges can chip if struck sharply
  • Pattern is mostly on the surface, limiting edge profiles
  • Requires specialised fabrication
