Why Quartz Can Be Cleaned Easily
Quartz is non-porous, so water cannot soak in. The white marks you see are minerals left behind on top of the surface. With the right technique they wipe away without harming the countertop.
What Are Water Stains and Rings?
They are thin layers of mineral residue that remain after hard water dries. Rings form under glasses and jugs; spots form around taps and where water splashes and is left to evaporate.
What Causes Them?
- Wet glasses, bottles and water coolers placed on the counter
- Dripping or leaking taps
- Splashes around the sink that are not wiped dry
- Steam from kettles and pressure cookers condensing on the counter
- Cleaning with water and not drying afterwards
How to Remove Water Stains
Warm Water and Dish Soap

Start by washing the area with warm soapy water. Rinse and dry thoroughly. Light deposits often disappear.
Soft Scrubber
For rings that remain, use a non-scratch sponge in small circles with soapy water.
Plastic Scraper
For thick, crusty mineral build-up around taps, gently lift the deposit with a plastic scraper or old credit card.
Diluted Vinegar
For stubborn rings on quartz, apply a 1:1 mix of white vinegar and water for a minute, then wipe and rinse thoroughly with clean water. Do not leave it to sit, and never use this method on marble or granite.
Dry and Buff
Finish by buffing with a dry microfibre cloth to restore the shine.
Preventing Water Marks
- Dry the counter after cleaning and after washing dishes
- Use coasters under glasses and jugs
- Fix dripping taps promptly
- Keep a small towel near the sink
- Consider a water softener or filter if your water is very hard
