How Strong Is Quartz?
Quartz is one of the hardest countertop surfaces available. Its high natural quartz content makes it scratch-resistant, and the resin binder makes it non-porous, so liquids cannot soak in. In everyday use it holds up much better than marble and many light granites.

How Quartz Slabs Are Made
Crushed quartz is mixed with resin and pigments, compacted under vacuum and vibration, cured with heat and polished. The resin is the secret to quartz's stain resistance, but it is also the part most sensitive to high heat and harsh chemicals. Protecting the resin is the key to protecting the slab.
What Can Damage White Quartz?
Abrasive scrubs. Steel wool, scouring powder and rough green pads leave fine scratches that dull the polish and trap dirt.

Strong cleaners. Concentrated bleach, oven cleaner, drain cleaner and high-pH degreasers can discolour the resin and leave yellow or cloudy patches.
Physical impact. Dropping a heavy pressure-cooker lid or cast-iron tawa on an edge can chip it.
Heat. Hot karahis, tawas, irons and hair straighteners can leave permanent brown marks.
Strong pigments. Haldi, food colouring, hair dye, mehndi and permanent markers can leave surface marks if left for hours.
Sunlight. Strong direct UV through a west-facing window may slowly yellow some white designs.
Everyday Protection Habits
- Wipe spills quickly, especially turmeric, chai and red chilli oil.
- Keep trivets beside the stove and use them every time.
- Cut on boards, never directly on the surface.
- Clean with mild products — warm water and a little dish soap are enough.
- Use blinds if the counter is in strong afternoon sun.
- Lift, don't drag heavy appliances like mixers, microwaves and atta machines.
- Cover the counter during renovation — paint, plaster and drilling dust are hard on any surface.
- Put trays under oil bottles and spice boxes so rings never form.
Removing Marks
For light haldi marks, make a paste of baking soda and water, leave it for about ten minutes and wipe it away. Isopropyl alcohol on a cloth removes marker and ink. Dried dough and gum lift easily with a plastic scraper. For anything stubborn, contact FB Marble before trying stronger chemicals.
