What Is a Granite Sink?
Most "granite sinks" are composite sinks made of about 80% crushed granite or quartz bonded with acrylic resin. They are dense, matte and non-porous, but their surface can hold mineral deposits and stains.
Daily Cleaning
- Rinse the sink after use to remove food particles.
- Wash with warm water, a few drops of dish soap and a soft sponge.
- Rinse thoroughly.
- Dry with a soft cloth to prevent water spots — especially important with hard water.
Granite Sinks: What to Know
- Avoid abrasive pads and steel wool.
- Avoid harsh chemicals such as bleach and drain cleaners left sitting in the sink.
- Do not leave tea bags, coffee grounds or haldi-stained utensils sitting for hours, especially in light-coloured sinks.
- Avoid placing very hot pans directly in an empty sink.
Cleaning Stubborn Stains
Step 1: Rinse and Wet the Sink

Remove debris and wet the entire surface.
Step 2: Apply Baking Soda
Sprinkle baking soda over stains and limescale, then scrub gently with a soft sponge or brush.
Step 3: Treat Limescale
For white mineral deposits, spray a mix of equal parts white vinegar and water, leave for a few minutes, then scrub gently. (This is for the composite sink only — keep vinegar off your granite or marble countertop.)
Step 4: Rinse and Restore
Rinse thoroughly with warm water and dry. To restore a deep colour on dark sinks, apply a few drops of mineral or cooking oil on a soft cloth and buff the surface. This reduces the chalky look and helps repel water.
Preventing Problems
- Dry the sink after the last use each day
- Use a sink grid to protect the base
- Install a water softener in very hard-water areas
- Clean weekly with baking soda
