Significant Savings
Replacing countertops involves new material, fabrication, removal of old tops and installation. Refinishing restores or changes the surface of the existing counter, often at a much lower cost and with less disruption.
Countertop Material Determines the Refinishing Process
Natural Stone (Granite, Marble, Quartzite)

Natural stone is the best candidate for refinishing because it can be restored repeatedly:
- Deep cleaning and stain removal with poultices
- Chip and crack repair with colour-matched epoxy
- Honing and polishing with diamond pads to remove scratches, etching and dullness
- Changing the finish — polished to honed or leathered-look
- Resealing
The result can look nearly new. FB Marble offers stone restoration in Lahore.
Laminate
Laminate can be painted with special refinishing kits, but results are temporary and can chip. Replacement with granite or quartz is often a better long-term investment.
Wood
Wooden countertops can be sanded and re-oiled or re-sealed to remove stains and scratches.
Epoxy Coatings
Some refinishing systems coat old countertops with epoxy for a new look. They can look attractive initially but may scratch, yellow or peel over time and are not suitable for high-heat cooking.
Quartz
Quartz can be cleaned and minor damage repaired, but its surface cannot be refinished as extensively as natural stone.
DIY or Contractor?
DIY is suitable for:
- Cleaning and stain removal
- Small chip repairs
- Light polishing
- Sealing
A contractor is recommended for:
- Honing and polishing whole countertops
- Crack repairs
- Seam repairs
- Changing finishes
When Refinishing Isn't Enough
If the countertop is structurally cracked, badly damaged or no longer fits your layout, replacement is the better choice. Old stone can often be reused elsewhere.
