Basics on Quartzite
Quartzite is a natural metamorphic rock that began as sandstone. Over millions of years, heat and pressure fused the quartz grains together until the rock became extremely dense. It should not be confused with engineered quartz, which is a manufactured product made from crushed quartz and resin.
Advantages of Quartzite
Durability. With a hardness of around 7 on the Mohs scale, true quartzite is harder than a steel knife and harder than glass. It resists scratches from utensils, pots and daily use.

Heat resistance. As a natural stone formed under extreme conditions, quartzite tolerates hot cookware well โ a real advantage in Pakistani kitchens.
Acid resistance. Unlike marble, quartzite does not etch from lemon juice, vinegar, tomatoes or yogurt.
UV stability. It can be used outdoors and in sunny spaces without fading.
Appearance. Quartzite often has a light background with soft veining and a subtle crystalline sparkle โ very similar to luxury marble.
Easy cleaning. Warm water and mild soap handle daily cleaning.
Disadvantages of Quartzite
Sealing required. Quartzite has pores and should be sealed, usually once a year on kitchen counters, to resist oil and haldi stains.
Higher cost. It is harder to quarry, cut and polish, so fabrication takes longer and costs more.
Brittle edges. Very hard stones can chip at sharp corners. Rounded or eased edges are recommended.
Mislabelling. Some stones sold as "quartzite" are actually dolomitic marble, which is much softer. Always test before buying.
How to Test Real Quartzite
Ask for a sample and try two simple tests. First, drag a sharp corner across a piece of glass โ real quartzite will scratch it. Second, place a drop of lemon juice on a hidden spot for a few minutes โ real quartzite will not lose its shine. FB Marble is happy to do these tests in front of you.

Is Quartzite Right for You?
If you want natural stone with a marble-like look and are happy to seal it yearly, quartzite is an excellent choice. If you want zero maintenance, engineered quartz is easier. If budget is a priority, Pakistani granite offers excellent durability at a lower price.
