The Pros of Granite

Appearance

Granite is a natural stone with depth, crystals and colours that no factory can fully replicate. Every slab is unique.

Variety

Granite comes in an enormous range of colours and patterns. FB Marble alone stocks more than 45 granites — black, white, grey, brown, gold, green, blue and pink — from Pakistan and around the world.

Durability

With a hardness of about 6–7 on the Mohs scale, granite resists scratches, chips and daily wear. A well-installed granite counter can last for generations.

Heat Resistance

Granite handles hot pots and pans far better than quartz, laminate or solid surface — ideal for high-heat Pakistani cooking.

Stain Resistance

Dark granites in particular resist stains very well, and properly sealed light granites perform well too.

Value

Local Pakistani granite starts from about Rs 250 per square foot in FB Marble's list — excellent value for a natural stone.

Outdoor Use

Granite withstands sun, rain and dust, making it perfect for car porches, stairs and outdoor kitchens.

Resale Value

Granite kitchens appeal to buyers and tenants.

The Cons of Granite

Sealing

Light granites need sealing roughly once a year. Dark granites need it rarely.

Weight

Granite is heavy, so cabinets must be strong and level.

Seams

Long counters and L-shapes require seams, though good fabrication makes them discreet.

Natural Variation

Slabs vary, so the sample may not match the slab exactly — always view the actual slab.

Hard on Glassware

A dropped glass will break on granite.

Cold Surface

Granite feels cold in winter.

Verdict

Granite's strengths far outweigh its weaknesses for most Pakistani kitchens. Its combination of durability, heat resistance, natural beauty and value make it one of the best all-round countertop materials.
