What Is Laminate?
Laminate countertops are made of layers of paper soaked in resin and pressed onto a core of particleboard or MDF. The top layer carries a printed design — often imitating wood or stone — protected by a clear wear layer.
What Is Granite?
Granite is a natural igneous stone cut from quarried blocks into slabs and polished. It is one of the hardest and most heat-resistant countertop materials.
Durability
Laminate scratches and chips easily, can burn or blister under hot pots, and its core swells if water seeps into joints or edges — a common problem around sinks. Granite resists scratches and heat and lasts for decades.
Is There Laminate That Looks Like Granite?
Yes, many laminates are printed to imitate granite. From a distance they can look convincing, but up close they appear flat, lacking the depth, crystal sparkle and natural variation of real stone.
Appearance
Granite has three-dimensional depth and natural character. Laminate looks printed and repetitive, and the edges often reveal the core or a visible edge strip.

Maintenance
Laminate: avoid heat, standing water and cutting. Damaged laminate cannot be repaired invisibly.
Granite: occasional sealing for light colours; easy to clean; chips can be repaired.
Installation
Laminate is light and quick to install. Granite needs professional fabrication and installation but is a one-time investment.
Cost
Laminate is cheaper upfront. However, Pakistani granite is very affordable — from about Rs 250 per square foot in FB Marble's list — and lasts many times longer, often making it better value over the life of the kitchen.
Resale Value
Granite adds value to homes and rental properties; laminate does not.
Which Should You Choose?
For a short-term rental or very tight budget, laminate may be acceptable. For any long-term home — especially with Pakistani cooking — granite is the better investment.
