What Is a Seam?
A seam is the joint where two pieces of stone meet. It is filled with adhesive — usually a colour-matched epoxy — and polished flush with the surface.

Does My Counter Need Seams?
Usually yes, if your counter run is longer than the slab, if the layout is L-shaped or U-shaped, or if access to the kitchen (narrow stairs, lifts) makes very long pieces impossible to carry.
How Many Seams Will I Have?
It depends on the length of your counters, the slab size and the layout. Careful planning can often reduce the number of seams. FB Marble shows you the proposed layout before cutting.
Why Bad Seams Happen
- Imprecise cutting leaves gaps or uneven edges.
- Uneven cabinets cause one side to sit higher than the other.
- Wrong epoxy colour makes the line stand out.
- Pattern mismatch on veined or wavy granite.
- Weak support allows the joint to move and crack.
- Rushed installation without proper levelling tools.
How to Hide Seams
Colour-Matched Filler

Epoxy tinted to match the stone's dominant colour blends the joint into the pattern.
Smart Placement
Avoid seams over dishwashers, beside sinks and hobs, at the centre of an island or in the most visible part of the kitchen. Place them in corners or less prominent areas.
Pattern Matching
For veined or wavy granite, lay slabs side by side and match the veins across the joint.
Seam-Setting Tools
Professional seam setters use suction cups to pull pieces tightly together and level them perfectly before the epoxy sets.
Choose Speckled Stone
Busy, speckled granites such as Tan Brown, Kashmir White and Galaxy Black hide seams far better than plain or strongly veined stones.
Larger Slabs
Jumbo slabs reduce the number of seams on long runs.
Caring for Seams
Avoid placing very hot pots directly on seams, and do not sit or stand on counters near joints.
