What Exactly Is Man-Made Stone?
Man-made stone combines natural mineral particles — such as crushed quartz, marble or granite — with a binder such as resin or cement. The mixture is moulded, compressed, cured and polished into slabs or tiles. Common types include:

- Engineered quartz: around 90–93% quartz with resin.
- Cultured marble and granite: stone dust with polyester resin and a gel coat.
- Terrazzo: stone chips set in cement or resin.
- Sintered stone and porcelain: minerals fired at very high temperatures (technically ceramics, often grouped with engineered surfaces).
How Does It Compare with Natural Stone?
| Factor | Man-Made (Quartz) | Natural (Granite/Marble) |
|---|---|---|
| Pattern | Consistent | Unique |
| Porosity | Non-porous | Varies; needs sealing |
| Heat | Moderate | Granite excellent |
| Outdoor | No | Granite yes |
| Repair | Harder | Easier |

Characteristics of Engineered Quartz
- Hard and scratch-resistant
- Non-porous and stain-resistant
- No sealing required
- Wide colour range including marble-looks
- Heat-sensitive resin
Why Choose Man-Made Stone for Countertops?
It offers predictability, low maintenance and modern designs. Busy families appreciate never having to seal, and designers appreciate consistent colour across large projects.
