Pakistan sits on some of the richest decorative stone deposits in the world. From the mountains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to the deserts of Balochistan and the granite hills of Sindh, our quarries supply homes across the country and export markets abroad. FB Marble has worked with these stones since 2001. Here is a short history.

Ancient Roots

Stone has been used in this region for thousands of years. The cities of the Indus Valley used carefully cut stone and brick; the Gandhara civilisation carved exquisite sculptures from local schist; and Mughal builders used marble and red sandstone in monuments such as Lahore Fort, Badshahi Mosque and the tombs of Lahore. Local craftsmen have passed stone-working skills down for generations.

The Growth of the Modern Industry

In the late twentieth century, demand for marble flooring grew rapidly in Pakistan's cities. Quarrying expanded, processing units opened in industrial areas and stone became a major export. Today, modern machinery is gradually replacing older blasting methods, improving block quality and reducing waste.

Marble Regions

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is the heart of Pakistan's marble industry. Districts such as Buner, Mohmand, Swat, Mardan and Chitral are known for marble quarrying and processing. Many popular varieties for flooring and walls come from this province.

Balochistan is home to Ziarat White, one of Pakistan's most celebrated white marbles, along with many other decorative stones.

Onyx

Balochistan, especially the Chagai region, produces the famous Pakistani green onyx — translucent stone with layers of green, cream and gold, prized worldwide for backlit walls, tabletops and decorative items. FB Marble offers Dark Green, Light Green, Multi Green and Pakistan Green onyx.

Granite

Granite outcrops occur in the Nagarparkar area of Sindh, near the Karoonjhar hills, and in the northern mountain regions. Local granites such as Tropical Brown, Impala Black and Indus Gold are widely used for floors, stairs and kitchens.

Limestone and Building Stone

Limestone formations across the Salt Range, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan supply building stone and the cement industry.

Looking Ahead

With better extraction technology, larger blocks, improved processing and stronger quality control, Pakistani stone is increasingly competitive internationally. Buying local stone also supports thousands of workers in quarrying communities.
