Why Stainless Steel?
- Durable: resists heat, stains and impact
- Hygienic: non-porous and easy to clean
- Affordable: wide price range
- Versatile: suits modern and traditional kitchens
- Lightweight: easy to install
Gauge (Thickness)
Steel thickness is measured in gauge — the lower the number, the thicker the steel. Thicker steel (16–18 gauge) is more durable, dents less and is quieter. Thin, cheap sinks dent easily and are noisy.
Grade of Steel
Look for good-quality stainless steel (often labelled 304 grade), which resists rust and corrosion. Lower grades may rust over time — especially with hard water.
Finish
- Brushed/satin: hides scratches and water spots.
- Polished/mirror: shiny but shows marks.
- Textured/linen: excellent at hiding scratches.
- Coloured (PVD): black, gold or copper for a designer look.
Bowl Configuration
- Single bowl: best for large pots, tawas and degchis.
- Double bowl: separate washing and rinsing, or meat and vegetables.
- Bowl with drainboard: convenient for drying.
- Large and small bowl: flexible everyday use.

Depth
Deeper bowls (8–10 inches) hold large pots and reduce splashing.
Sound Dampening
Quality sinks have rubber pads or coating underneath to reduce noise.
Mounting with Stone Countertops
Undermount: sits below the counter for a sleek look and easy cleaning; needs a polished stone cut-out and strong clips.
Top-mount (drop-in): rests on the counter with a visible rim; simpler and cheaper.
Integrated drainboard: grooves cut into granite or quartz beside an undermount sink.
Care Tips
- Clean with mild soap and a soft sponge
- Dry after use to avoid water spots
- Avoid steel wool, which can cause rust spots
- Use a sink grid to protect from scratches
