How to Visualise Your Granite Countertop Before Buying

A small granite sample can look very different from a full kitchen. Patterns that look subtle on a 4-inch piece can become bold across a 10-foot counter, and colours shift under different lights. Visualising carefully before you buy prevents disappointment. Here is how.

The Many Faces of Granite

Granite comes in many characters: speckled and even (Kashmir White, Tropical Brown), crystalline and sparkling (Galaxy Black, Blue Pearl), almost solid (Black Granite) and wavy with strong movement (Brown Wave, Cosmo Wave). Patterned stones in particular look completely different across a whole slab than in a sample.

Step 1: Use Online Tools

FB Marble's design tools on fbmarble.com let you preview stones and edge profiles. Our granite pages show full-slab photos, and you can compare up to four granites side by side.

Step 2: See the Full Slab

Visit our yard on Bedian Road, Lahore, to see complete slabs. Stand back a few metres to see the overall pattern, then look closely at details. Ask us to show you the specific slabs that will be cut for your order.

Step 3: Check in Daylight

Showroom lighting is different from your kitchen. Look at slabs near natural light, and take photos on your phone to compare later.

Step 4: Bring Samples Home

Place a sample next to your cabinets, floor and backsplash tiles. Look at it in the morning, afternoon and evening under your own lighting. Warm yellow bulbs can make grey granites look muddy and white granites look cream.

Step 5: Lay Out Patterned Slabs

For wavy or veined granite, ask us to lay the slabs side by side so you can see how the pattern will flow across seams. Mark which section of the slab you want on your island or main counter.

Selecting Granite to Match Your Interior

  • Modern: black or grey granite, polished or leathered; eased edges.
  • Classic: brown, gold or beige speckled granite; bullnose or ogee edges.
  • Bold: blue, green or wavy exotics on an island.
  • Bright and airy: white and light grey granites.

Avoid Common Mistakes

  • Choosing from a phone photo alone
  • Ignoring the floor colour
  • Not checking that all slabs come from one batch
  • Choosing a busy granite with a busy backsplash
