The Best Materials for Bar Countertops: Granite, Marble and More

A bar counter — whether a home juice or coffee bar, a lounge bar or a café counter — is a place to make a statement. It must also handle spills, glasses and constant use. Here are the best materials and what each offers.

Granite: Full of Character and Durable

Granite is tough, stain-resistant when sealed and handles hot cups and teapots with ease. Dramatic granites such as Blue Pearl, Brown Wave and Titanium Black create memorable bars, while Galaxy Black sparkles under bar lighting.

Brown Fantasy Granite slab from FB Marble Lahore, suited to granite bar top
Brown Fantasy Granite from our stock in Lahore. Ideal for: granite bar top.

Best for: busy bars and cafés.

Onyx: Depth, Layers and Contrast

Onyx is translucent and spectacular when backlit. Pakistani green onyx — Dark Green, Light Green, Multi Green or Pakistan Green — creates a glowing bar front or top that becomes the centrepiece of a room.

Desert Beige Marble slab from FB Marble Lahore, suited to marble bar counter
Desert Beige Marble from our stock in Lahore. Ideal for: marble bar counter.

Best for: luxury lounges and feature bars. Use coasters, as onyx is softer and sensitive to acids.

Slate: Subtlety and Texture

Matte, dark and natural, slate suits rustic and minimalist bars. It is softer than granite and less available in Pakistan; leathered black granite is a durable alternative.

Gemstone: Rare and Unique

Semi-precious stone slabs — agate, tiger's eye, amethyst — create extraordinary, glowing bars. They are ultra-premium and best for low-use, high-impact areas.

Marble: Elegantly Luxe

Marble brings classic elegance. Black and Gold or Silky Black marble creates glamorous bars; white marble feels fresh and bright. Marble etches with citrus and drinks, so use coasters and seal it well.

Quartz: Low Maintenance and Diverse

Quartz is non-porous and easy to clean, available in many colours including marble-looks like Calacatta Gold. It is ideal for juice and coffee bars where spills are frequent.
