Isn't All Granite the Same?
All granite shares a basic composition — mainly quartz and feldspar, formed from slowly cooled magma. But the proportions of minerals, the size of crystals, the cooling conditions and the presence of other minerals create enormous variety in colour, pattern, hardness and porosity.
How Many Types of Granite Are There?
Hundreds of commercial granite varieties are quarried worldwide. FB Marble stocks more than 45, including 21 Pakistani granites and 25 imported from Brazil, Finland, India, Norway and Ukraine.
How Does Granite Vary Between Types?
Colour: from black and white to blue, green, gold and pink.
Pattern: speckled, solid, veined or wavy.
Crystal size: fine-grained or large crystals.
Porosity: dark, dense granites absorb very little; light granites absorb more.
Hardness: most granites are very hard, though composition varies slightly.
Origin: local or imported, affecting price and availability.
How Does Granite Vary Between Slabs?
Even within one type, slabs can differ:

- Slabs from different blocks may vary in shade
- Pattern and vein direction change across a block
- Some slabs have more natural fissures or resin filling
That is why we recommend viewing the actual slabs for your project and buying your entire quantity from one batch.
Is There a Price Difference Between Types?
Yes. In FB Marble's list, granite ranges from about Rs 250 to Rs 5,000 per square foot. Local and common colours are economical; rare colours and exotic patterns are premium.
What Factors Impact the Cost of Granite?
- Origin (local vs imported)
- Rarity of colour and pattern
- Quality and grade
- Slab size and thickness
- Finish (polished, leathered, honed, flamed)
- Demand
