What Is Granite and Where Does It Come From?
Granite is a natural stone formed from magma that cooled slowly deep underground. It is found on every continent. FB Marble sources granite from Pakistan — including regions such as Nagarparkar in Sindh and the northern mountains — as well as India, Brazil, Norway, Finland and Ukraine.

What Is an Igneous Rock?
Igneous rocks form from molten rock. Granite is an intrusive igneous rock, meaning it cooled slowly underground, allowing large crystals to form.
Where Is Granite Found?
Granite forms the core of many mountain ranges and large parts of the continental crust. Quarries are located where granite is exposed at the surface.
How Are Granite Countertops Made?
Blocks are quarried, cut into slabs, polished and shipped to stone yards. Fabricators then cut the slabs to fit each kitchen, shape the edges, make cut-outs and install the finished pieces.
Key Characteristics of Granite
Appearance

Granite displays visible crystals, speckles and sometimes flowing waves. Colours range from black, white and grey to brown, gold, green, blue, pink and red. Every slab is unique.
Durability
Granite is very hard — about 6–7 on the Mohs scale — and resists scratches and wear.
Heat Resistance
It handles hot pots and pans with ease, making it ideal for cooking areas.
Stain Resistance
Granite has low porosity. Dark granites resist stains very well; light granites need periodic sealing.
Acid Resistance
Granite does not etch from common kitchen acids like lemon and vinegar, unlike marble.
Weight
Granite is dense and heavy — about 12–15 kg per square foot at 18–20 mm thickness.
Longevity
Properly installed granite can last for generations.
Outdoor Suitability
Granite withstands sun, rain and temperature changes.
Finishes
Polished, honed, leathered, flamed and more.
Why Granite Suits Pakistani Homes
Its heat resistance suits high-heat cooking; dark speckled granites hide oil and spices; and local granites offer excellent value from about Rs 250 per square foot.
