Why Quartz Is Ideal for Custom Edges
Quartz is consistent through its body, so any profile — from a simple eased edge to an elaborate ogee — shows the same colour and pattern as the top. That makes it one of the most flexible materials for edge design.
What Is Edging?
Edging is the shaping and polishing of the exposed sides of a slab after it has been cut to size. Raw cut stone has sharp, fragile corners, so every counter needs some kind of edge profile.
The Purpose of an Edge
- Removes sharp corners that can cut or chip
- Improves safety for children and elderly family members
- Defines the style of the kitchen
- Affects how thick the counter appears
- Influences how spills behave at the edge

How Edges Are Formed
Modern fabricators use CNC machines or hand-held routers fitted with diamond profile wheels to shape the edge, then work through progressively finer polishing pads until the edge matches the shine of the top.
Types of Edges
Standard edges: eased, half bevel, full bevel, quarter round, half bullnose and full bullnose. Usually included in the base price.
Premium edges: ogee, Dupont, chiselled, mitered and waterfall. Charged per running foot because they take more machine time and skill.
Six Questions to Help You Choose
1. What is your budget? If cost matters, any standard edge looks smart. Spend on premium edges only where they are most visible, like an island.

2. How big is the space? In narrow galley kitchens and small apartments, rounded profiles reduce painful bumps.
3. Who lives in the house? With toddlers or elderly parents, choose half bullnose or quarter round.
4. What style is your home? Modern homes suit eased or mitered edges. Classic homes and kothis suit ogee or bullnose.
5. How easy should cleaning be? Simple profiles are easiest; decorative grooves can trap flour and masala.
6. What sink are you using? Undermount sinks look best with simple edges that match the polished sink cut-out.
Mixing Edges
You do not need the same edge everywhere. A popular approach is an eased edge on perimeter counters and a mitered or waterfall edge on the island to make it the focal point.
