What Is Quartz?
Quartz countertops are engineered from about 90โ93% natural quartz bonded with polymer resin. The resin makes the surface non-porous but is sensitive to harsh chemicals.
How Quartz Is Made
Crushed quartz and resin are mixed, pressed under vacuum and vibration, cured with heat and polished. The result is a dense, smooth surface.
What to Use When Disinfecting
- 70% isopropyl alcohol โ effective, quick-drying and safe for quartz.
- Quartz-safe disinfectant sprays โ check the label.
- Hot water and mild dish soap โ for cleaning before disinfecting.
What Not to Use
- Undiluted bleach โ can discolour the resin, especially on white quartz.
- Strong alkaline cleaners such as oven cleaners.
- Abrasive pads and powders.
- Products with high acid content.
Five Easy Steps to Disinfect Quartz
- Clear the counter of food, utensils and appliances.
- Clean with hot soapy water to remove grease and food residue. Disinfectants work best on clean surfaces.
- Spray 70% isopropyl alcohol evenly over the surface.
- Wait one to two minutes so the alcohol can work.
- Wipe and dry with a clean microfibre cloth.

Why Disinfect?
Raw meat, poultry and unwashed vegetables can carry bacteria. In Pakistan's hot climate, bacteria multiply quickly. Regular disinfection after food preparation helps protect your family.

Daily Damage-Prevention Tips
- Always use cutting boards for meat and vegetables.
- Keep separate boards for raw meat.
- Use trivets for hot pots.
- Wipe spills before they dry.
- Use separate cloths for counters and dishes, and wash them often.
