How Granite and Marble Countertops Are Made

Every granite or marble countertop goes through a long journey before it reaches your kitchen. Understanding the process helps you appreciate the craftsmanship involved and the importance of choosing an experienced supplier. Here is how it works.

Step 1: Quarrying

Large blocks of granite or marble are extracted from quarries using diamond wire saws or controlled splitting. Blocks can weigh 15–25 tonnes.

Step 2: Block Cutting

At processing plants, gang saws or multi-wire saws slice blocks into slabs — commonly 18, 20 or 30 mm thick.

Step 3: Resin Treatment

Many slabs are treated with resin to fill micro-fissures and strengthen the surface, especially marble and some granites.

Step 4: Polishing or Finishing

Slabs pass through polishing lines with progressively finer abrasive heads to achieve polished, honed, leathered or other finishes.

Step 5: Grading and Shipping

Slabs are graded, bundled and shipped to stone yards such as FB Marble in Lahore.

Step 6: Slab Selection

You visit the yard, view full slabs and choose the ones for your project.

Step 7: Templating

Our team measures your kitchen or bathroom precisely, recording walls, angles, sinks, hobs and overhangs.

Step 8: Layout Planning

The template is placed on the slab to plan the best use of the pattern, seam positions and vein flow.

Step 9: Cutting

Bridge saws and CNC machines cut the countertop pieces precisely.

Step 10: Edging

Edge profiles — eased, bullnose, ogee, mitered — are shaped and polished.

Step 11: Cut-Outs

Sink, hob and tap holes are cut and polished.

Step 12: Finishing and Quality Check

Pieces are cleaned, checked for accuracy and dry-fitted where possible.

Step 13: Installation

Pieces are transported, placed on level cabinets, bonded at seams with colour-matched epoxy, sinks are fitted and joints are sealed.

Step 14: Sealing

Natural stone is sealed to protect against stains.

Why the Process Matters

Each step affects the final result. Poor templating causes gaps; careless cutting causes chips; bad installation causes cracks. FB Marble handles templating, fabrication and installation in-house for consistent quality.
