Common Marble Thicknesses
1 cm (about 10 mm)

Used for wall cladding, backsplashes, shower walls and some tiles. It must be fully supported or bonded to a solid wall. It is lightweight and economical but not suitable for unsupported counters.
2 cm (18–20 mm)
The most common thickness in Pakistan. It is used for floors, vanity tops, kitchen counters on full cabinets, window sills and stair risers. It offers a good balance of strength, weight and cost.
3 cm (30 mm)
Used for stair treads, door thresholds, heavy-use counters, table tops and statement islands. It looks substantial and handles overhangs better.
4 cm and above
Reserved for custom work such as solid table tops, carved pieces, columns and outdoor benches.
Thin vs Thick: How They Compare
Durability. Thicker slabs resist cracking over spans and around cut-outs. Thinner slabs rely on solid support beneath.
Appearance. A thick edge looks luxurious. However, you can achieve the same look on a 2 cm slab with a built-up or mitered edge.
Weight. A 3 cm slab is roughly 50% heavier than a 2 cm slab. Consider cabinet strength, upper-floor access and wall loads.
Cost. More stone means a higher price per square foot, plus more labour to handle and fabricate.

Does Marble Need to Be Thicker than Granite?
Marble is softer than granite, so it benefits from good support, especially around sink cut-outs. For most vanities and counters, 18–20 mm marble on a solid base is perfectly adequate. For long spans or overhangs, add plywood or steel supports.
