What Is Soapstone?
Soapstone is a metamorphic rock rich in talc, which gives it a soft, slightly soapy feel. It is dense and heat-resistant, but it is soft enough to scratch with a fingernail in some varieties. It darkens over time and is usually oiled to even out its colour.
What Is Granite?
Granite is a hard igneous rock with excellent resistance to scratches, heat and stains. With the right finish, dark granites can mimic soapstone's matte, velvety appearance.

Why Choose Granite over Soapstone?
Durability

Granite resists scratches and dents that would mark soapstone within weeks.
Consistent Appearance
Soapstone changes colour with oil and use, developing patina. Granite keeps a consistent look without oiling.
Availability and Price
Soapstone must be imported into Pakistan and is hard to source. Dark granites are readily available and often more economical.
Low Maintenance
Granite needs occasional sealing; soapstone needs regular oiling.
Best Soapstone-Look Granites
Black Pearl (leathered) — a soft, textured charcoal with a gentle sheen.
Galaxy Black (honed) — deep black with subtle sparkle softened by the matte finish.
Impala Black (leathered) — an economical Pakistani grey-black with a natural, stony feel.
Titanium Black — charcoal base with white and gold veins, similar to veined soapstone.
Forest Black — subtle dark tones with hints of green, close to some soapstone varieties.
Choosing the Finish
The finish matters as much as the stone. Leathered and honed finishes remove the mirror shine and create the soft, matte look soapstone is known for. Polished granite will look more glossy and modern.
Quartz Alternatives
Matte dark quartz such as Charcoal Grey or Antique Black also gives a soapstone-like appearance with zero sealing.
