Why Do Stone Surfaces Lose Their Shine?
The most common causes are soap film left behind after cleaning, a thin layer of cooking grease from tadka and frying, hard-water minerals that dry into white spots, and harsh cleaners that either leave residue or attack the resin. Abrasive scrubbers make things worse by creating micro-scratches that scatter light.
Keeping Quartz Shining
1. Clean Regularly

Wipe the counter after every meal with warm water and a drop of dish soap. Then rinse with a clean damp cloth and dry with a soft towel. Drying is the secret to a streak-free finish, especially in cities with hard water.
2. Deep Clean Weekly
Once a week, spray a quartz-safe surface cleaner over the whole counter, leave it for a minute, and wipe with a non-scratch sponge. Pay special attention to the area beside the stove, where an invisible film of oil mist settles every day.
3. Avoid Harsh Chemical Cleaners
Bleach, oven cleaner, strong degreasers and acid-based bathroom cleaners can dull the resin over time. Choose pH-neutral products or simple soap and water.
4. Use Protective Layers
Put trays under oil bottles, spice racks and soap dispensers. Use mats under kettles, toasters and roti makers. Always cut on a chopping board.
5. Remove Stains Promptly
For haldi or marker, use a baking-soda paste or a little isopropyl alcohol before the mark has time to set.
6. Avoid Hard Scrubbers
Steel wool and green scouring pads create fine scratches that make the surface look hazy. Microfibre cloths and soft sponges are all you need.
Dealing with Hard Water
In many parts of Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi, tap water leaves white mineral spots. Buff the counter dry after cleaning. Occasionally, a mild solution of vinegar and water can be wiped over quartz to dissolve mineral film — but rinse it off immediately and never use this method on marble or granite.

When to Call a Professional
If your quartz is dull even after a thorough clean, it may have fine scratches or chemical damage. Professional re-polishing can restore the surface in some cases. Contact FB Marble for an assessment.
