Advice for Visiting a Stone Slab Yard

Visiting a stone slab yard is the most exciting part of choosing a countertop. Seeing full slabs helps you understand colour, pattern and scale far better than small samples. Here is how to make your visit to FB Marble — or any yard — productive.

Do Your Research Before Your Visit

  • Browse online: shortlist stones on fbmarble.com using colour and use filters.
  • Know your measurements: bring a sketch with lengths, depths and cut-outs.
  • Set a budget: granite at FB Marble ranges from about Rs 250 to Rs 5,000 per square foot.
  • Bring samples: a cabinet door, floor tile or paint swatch.
  • Take photos of your kitchen to show our team.

Indoor vs Outdoor Slab Yards

Indoor Slab Yards

Step 1: Inspecting slab surface – visiting granite slab yard
Step 1: Inspecting slab surface

Slabs are protected from weather and dust, and lighting can be controlled. Remember that indoor lighting may differ from your kitchen.

Outdoor Slab Yards

Natural daylight shows the true colour. Slabs may be dusty — ask staff to wet a section to see the polished colour.

FB Marble's Lahore yard lets you see slabs in natural light.

Measure, Measure, Measure

Accurate measurements help staff calculate how many slabs you need and whether a slab is large enough for your island or longest run.

You Found the Stone You Like — Now What?

  • Ask about price, thickness, finish and availability.
  • Check whether enough slabs from the same batch are in stock.
  • Ask about seam positions for patterned stones.
  • Request to reserve the slabs.

Inspecting the Slab

  • Cracks: look for long cracks across the slab — small natural fissures are normal.
  • Resin-filled areas: large filled patches may be undesirable.
  • Polish: look along the surface against the light for even shine.
  • Colour consistency: compare slabs from the same batch.
  • Dye test for black granite: rub a hidden corner with acetone on a white cloth.
  • Pattern: decide which section goes where, especially on islands.
