Polished Finish
How it's made: the stone is ground and buffed with progressively finer abrasives until it reflects light.
Look: glossy, mirror-like; colours appear deepest.
Performance: most stain-resistant finish; easy to wipe.
Best for: kitchen counters, vanities, formal floors and feature walls.
Watch out for: slippery when wet; shows fingerprints on dark stones; etches show clearly on marble.
Honed Finish
How it's made: grinding stops before polishing, leaving a smooth matte surface.
Look: soft, satin or matte; colours appear lighter.
Performance: hides scratches and marble etching; may absorb oil more readily.
Best for: modern kitchens, bathroom floors, marble kitchen counters.
Sandblasted Finish
How it's made: high-pressure sand or grit is blasted at the surface.
Look: uniform matte texture, lighter colour.
Performance: slip-resistant; good for outdoor areas.
Best for: outdoor paving, steps, pool surrounds and exterior cladding.
Leathered Finish
How it's made: diamond brushes texture the honed surface.
Look: soft sheen with gentle undulations; deep colour.
Performance: hides fingerprints, water spots and scratches.
Best for: kitchen counters (especially black granite), islands, bar tops and stairs.
Flamed Finish (Granite)
How it's made: intense heat causes surface crystals to burst.
Look: rough, natural.
Performance: highly slip-resistant.
Best for: driveways, car porches, outdoor steps.
Tumbled Finish (Marble, Travertine)
How it's made: stones are tumbled with abrasives.
Look: aged, rounded edges.
Best for: rustic floors, backsplashes and patios.
