Why Darken Travertine?
- Richer colour: brings out the warm golds, browns and creams.
- Highlights pattern: veins and textures become more visible.
- Matches dΓ©cor: darker tones suit warm, traditional interiors.
- Protection: enhancing sealers also protect against stains.

What Is an Enhancing Sealer?
An enhancing (or colour-enhancing) sealer is a penetrating sealer formulated to deepen the colour of natural stone. It soaks into the pores and makes the stone look as though it is slightly wet, without leaving a glossy coating.
What to Expect
- Colours become deeper and more saturated.
- Honed and tumbled travertine gains a richer, more defined look.
- The effect is permanent until the sealer wears off.
- Results vary by stone β always test first.
How to Apply an Enhancing Sealer
- Clean thoroughly: use a pH-neutral stone cleaner; remove dirt from holes and texture.
- Dry completely: wait at least 24β48 hours, longer in humid weather.
- Test: apply to a hidden area and let it dry to check the result.
- Apply: use a brush, roller or lint-free cloth to apply evenly.
- Let it penetrate: follow the label β usually 5β15 minutes.
- Wipe excess: remove all surplus before it dries to avoid a sticky haze.
- Second coat: apply if a deeper colour is desired.
- Cure: avoid foot traffic or water for 24 hours or as directed.
Go to the Dark Side β But Carefully
- Test first: enhancing is difficult to reverse.
- Consistency: treat the entire area for an even look.
- Outdoors: use UV-stable enhancers for patios and pool surrounds.
- Maintenance: reapply every one to three years, depending on traffic.
Other Options
- Polishing filled travertine brings out colour and shine.
- Choosing darker travertine such as walnut or noce from the start.
