What Is the Eased Edge?
An eased edge is a square edge whose sharp top and bottom corners have been lightly ground and polished into a tiny radius. The front face stays flat and vertical, so the slab looks crisp and architectural, but the corners are no longer sharp enough to cut a hand or chip at the slightest knock. Think of it as a "straight edge with good manners".
Also Known As
Fabricators and designers use several names for the same profile: straight edge, flat polished edge, square eased, pencil-eased or simply "eased". When the corner radius is made a little larger, some people call it a pencil edge. If you are unsure what a supplier means, ask to see a physical sample — at FB Marble we keep edge samples on display for exactly this reason.

Is It a Standard or Premium Edge?
The eased edge is a standard edge. In most quotations it is included in the basic fabrication price, or adds only a very small charge. This makes it the most cost-effective way to get a refined finish, especially on long kitchen runs where premium edges priced per running foot quickly add up.
Where You Can Install It
The eased profile works almost anywhere stone is used:
- Kitchen counters, islands and breakfast bars
- Bathroom vanity tops and shower ledges
- Window sills and door thresholds
- Study tables, side tables and dining tops
- Stair treads, where a slightly larger radius makes a safe nosing
- Reception desks, café counters and office pantries
Advantages of the Eased Edge
A clean, modern look. Flat-panel and handle-less cabinets, which are now common in Pakistani apartments, pair perfectly with a straight profile.
It shows off the stone. A simple edge does not compete with veining, so marble-look quartz such as Calacatta Gold or a wavy granite like Brown Wave takes centre stage.
Cost-effective. No complex shaping means less machine time and less risk of breakage during fabrication.
Easy to clean. There are no grooves or curves where oil, flour or masala can collect.
Durable. The softened corners resist chipping far better than a raw square edge.
Timeless. Decorative edges go in and out of fashion; an eased edge will still look right in ten or twenty years.
Disadvantages to Consider
The eased edge is not decorative. If your home has a classic or traditional style with carved woodwork, an ogee or Dupont profile may suit it better. The corners are also squarer than a bullnose, so families with toddlers sometimes prefer a half bullnose or a larger radius on the eased corners.

Pairing Tips
On 18 mm quartz, an eased edge looks slim and contemporary. On a 20 mm granite slab it looks solid and confident. If you want the counter to appear much thicker without the weight of a 30 mm slab, combine the eased profile with a built-up or mitered front edge — the best of both worlds.
