What Is Soapstone?
Soapstone is a metamorphic rock rich in talc. The talc gives it a soft, smooth, slightly soapy feel. It is dense, non-porous and very heat-resistant — traditionally used for laboratory benches, stoves and sinks.

Types of Soapstone
Artistic soapstone — very soft and high in talc; used for carving.
Architectural soapstone — harder, with less talc; used for countertops and sinks.
What Colour Is Soapstone?
Usually grey, charcoal or greenish-grey, often with white or green veins. It darkens over time and with oiling, developing a rich patina.
How Much Do Soapstone Countertops Cost?
In Pakistan, soapstone must usually be imported, making it a premium material with limited availability. Cost depends on slab size, quality, thickness and fabrication.
How Does the Price Compare?
| Material | Relative Cost in Pakistan |
|---|---|
| Local granite | Economical |
| Imported granite | Moderate–premium |
| Quartz | Mid–premium |
| Soapstone (imported) | Premium |
